Venezuela is creating a military unit on the border with Colombia <\/a>due to the recent hostilities.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Venezuela has set up a special military unit for the area on its border with Colombia, which has been the center of clashes<\/a> between troops and illegal armed groups since last month,” the statement said.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Thousands of civilians have reportedly been displaced by fighting militants whom President<\/a> Nicolas Maduro’s government calls “terrorists.”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

General Vladimir Padrino said a temporary<\/a> unit called the Integrated Operational Defense Zone, or ZODI, would operate in several municipalities in the state of Apure where the clashes took place.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“We are not going to allow any force to enter the territory of Venezuela to commit crimes, be it ordinary, irregular, criminal, drug traffickers, etc.,” Padrino said.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It is noted that the Venezuelan military<\/a> supports a permanent ZODI unit for each of the 23 states and the capital of Caracas.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Padrino said eight soldiers had been killed in the fighting, while 34 soldiers had been wounded, nine members of armed groups had been killed and 33 people had been brought to justice by the military justice system.<\/p>\n
