The Saffar Film Festival, launched by the Arab British Center<\/a>, is the only British festival dedicated to screening films from the Arab world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kyiv. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – June 02, 2021 – Forums and Conferences<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Featuring three premieres, 20 films and a host of talks and events, this year’s edition will be the largest iteration yet and will use a mixed model of online and in-person events spread across all London cinemas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also new to the festival, this year’s event will be presented in partnership with the Shubbak Festival for Contemporary Arab Culture, which showcases and supports the diversity of creativity and innovation of Arab artists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Curated by Lebanese film guru Rabih El Khoury, this year\u2019s festival <\/a>will revolve around the theme of \u201cGenerations Encounters in Arab Cinema,\u201d showcasing contemporary and classic films with emerging youth, family inequalities, and societal tensions at their center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Al-Khoury said: \u201cIt is with absolute pleasure that I oversee the sixth edition of the Saffar Film Festival.\u201d \u201cWe are excited to be back in cinemas with the festival\u2019s biggest program to date, and we have a great selection of shows that explore the theme of intergenerational encounters.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Theaters and other venues across the UK have suffered from a long period of restrictions on social gatherings due to the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amani Hassan, director of programs at the Arab British Centre, said the blow to the British cultural sector means this year’s Saffar Film Festival is the most significant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis year\u2019s Saffar Film Festival marks the first time we have partnered with our friends at the Shubbak Festival, which, after a difficult year for the cultural <\/a>sector, offers our organizations the opportunity to join forces and amplify the voices of Arab artists and filmmakers around the world. Hassan added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saffar will open at London’s famous Barbican Cultural Center with the premiere of Egyptian director Aiten Amin’s new film “Souad”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
