Mostly it happens at night. Scientists monitored 170 trees that grew in 50 different places in Switzerland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Kyiv. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate &#8211; June 30, 2021 \u2013 Agriculture<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Researchers were surprised that the trees grew even in moderately dry soil. However, one condition had to be met: the air had to be sufficiently humid. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukrgate.com\/eng\/?p=11968\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"11968\">Dry <\/a>air slowed growth and affected it worse than dry soil. The growth of trees depends on their ability to retain moisture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As soon as the air becomes drier, the trees lose more water than they absorb due to transpiration (movement of water inside themselves). The ability to retain moisture decreases, growth stops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In plants, the radius of the trunks was measured during the experiment, and information on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukrgate.com\/eng\/?p=16490\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"16490\">air <\/a>and soil moisture was collected.
