On August 1, 2021, Father Nicolae Lauruk was officially appointed Vicar of the Ukrainian Orthodox Vicariate in Romania. Vicar Nikolai Lauruk celebrated the first Liturgy in the church in Ruskov, Maramures district, on the feast of the glorious prophet Elijah. The liturgy was celebrated in both Romanian and Ukrainian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John Pitura and presented the latter with an icon of St. John of Russia, containing a fragment of the relics of the saint. The new vicar thanked his predecessor for 30 years of service <\/a>as vicar of the Ukrainian Orthodox Vicariate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Ukrainian Orthodox Vicariate is an administrative-territorial unit, canonically dependent on the Romanian Patriarchate, dedicated to Ukrainian Orthodox believers living in Romania. They take part in services conducted in the Ukrainian language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Now the vicariate is based in Sigit (Maramures County), which contains believers from the northern part of the country (Maramures, Transylvania, Krishna, Banat).<\/p>\n\n\n\n In 1952, the Ukrainian Orthodox Vicariate was transformed into the Ukrainian <\/a>Orthodox Deanery, based in the commune of Penile de sub-Munte, Maramures County, under the jurisdiction of the Orthodox Diocese of Cluj, with financial support from the Romanian Patriarchate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n After 1989, by the decision of the Holy Synod \u2116 1432\/12, February 1990, the Ukrainian Orthodox Vicariate was restored, which directly canonically depended on the Romanian Patriarchate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It will be recalled that in September 2020, a new church <\/a>of the Ukrainian Orthodox Vicariate was consecrated in Timisoara, Romania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n
