The celebration of the 227th anniversary of the founding of the Odesa port took place on September 3 in the conference hall of the main representative office of the Odesa branch of the State Enterprise “Administration of the Seaports of Ukraine” (PF State Enterprise “USPU”).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the press service of the Odesa seaport <\/a>Administration, the head of the State Enterprise “USPU” Maxim Lapay warmly congratulated the audience on the holiday and called on the port workers to be worthy successors of the glorious traditions of the enterprise’s labor collective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe combination of two hundred years of experience and constant striving for the future, impeccable fulfillment of obligations to partners and clients, have been and remain the key to respect and recognition of the Odesa port throughout the world. The innovations that we are introducing today, the style of work that is inherent only to us, is the merit of dozens and hundreds of specific people, ranging from heads of divisions to ordinary workers, \u201demphasized Maxim Lapay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is noted that the port workers were presented with awards from the central and local authorities, the management of the state enterprise, and public organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The participants of the festivities laid flowers at the Docker monument and held an impromptu rally at the corporate Board of Honor, on which, on the occasion of the holiday, portraits of port workers awarded the title “Employee of the Year” were brought.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the facade of the building of the port club at the entrance to the museum <\/a>of the history of the Odesa port named after Franz de Volan (Lanzheronovskiy descent, 2a), a memorial sign was solemnly opened to the outstanding figure in the field of maritime transport, the head of the Odesa port in the 60-the 70s of the last century, Oleg Thomas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOleg Konstantinovich Tomas was a professional with a capital letter and he devoted all of himself to serving the port, selflessly working for the benefit of sea transport and the state. Oleg Konstantinovich is a person from whom all of us should learn the ability to work and attitude to business, \u201dsaid Maxim Lapay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The celebration continued with a festive concert at the Marine Station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the rescript of Catherine II, on May 27, 1794, a new port city was founded on the site of the Khadzhibey settlement. On September 2 of the same year, under the leadership of the Spanish nobleman Joseph de Ribas, the first port facilities were laid. Historians consider the date September 2, 1794, to be the birthday of the city of Odesa and the Odesa seaport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
