The series “Squid Game<\/a>” became a real sensation this fall, because it’s hard to find someone who hasn’t watched it yet<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the most memorable scenes in the series was a test of sweets<\/a>, where the characters had to cut out caramel figures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These sweets – traditional for South Korea, were especially popular <\/a>in the 80-90s, but they can be found on the streets of Seoul and other cities in the country and now. It is called caramel candy <\/a>Dalgona (dalgona).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The game in which the characters tried to cut out figures from candy is called Ppopgi<\/a>. Sometimes street vendors handed out prizes (such as toys) to children who cut the figure well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You only need two ingredients to make candy: sugar <\/a>and baking soda. It is best to use metal utensils with a thick bottom, wooden or silicone spatula. Non-stick cookware <\/a>is also suitable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Preparation:
Pour the sugar into a saucepan or skillet and put on low heat. Allow the sugar to melt <\/a>completely and do not stir until this happens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the sugar turns amber, remove from the heat, add a pinch of baking soda and stir. The mixture <\/a>should lighten a little.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pour small portions of the mixture on parchment for baking (preferably siliconized) or silicone <\/a>baking mat. Attach a metal cookie <\/a>cutter to the caramel<\/a>, you can also add a wooden stick at this stage to make it easier to eat the lollipop<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Allow the candy to cool for 15-20 minutes before removing from the mat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
