German Health Minister Jens Span said the pandemic was far from over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We are currently experiencing a mass pandemic of the unvaccinated. If more people could afford to be vaccinated, there would be fewer coronavirus patients in the intensive care unit, \u201dhe said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Wednesday, authorities reported 2,220 patients in intensive care beds. In addition, 666 people died of coronavirus in Germany in the last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lothar Wheeler, head of the German Disease Control Agency and president of the Robert Koch Institute, called the recent rise in infection rates frightening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The fourth wave is developing exactly as we feared, because few people have been vaccinated,” Wheeler said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
