Residents of the country will have to wear masks indoors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Only those vaccinated against coronavirus and those who have recovered from the disease are allowed to enter events and public places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The government also encouraged people to work from home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new rules will take effect on December 6 and will run until January 24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The Federal Council is now assessing the situation as very critical. The emergence of the Omicron strain poses new challenges,” the statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the Federal Office of Health, three Omicron cases have already been confirmed in Switzerland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On November 26, the World Health Organization named the strain the Greek letter Omicron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Omicron has already been recorded in 38 countries: some European, Australia, Israel, Hong Kong, Japan, North and Latin America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
