Monitoring and measuring heart rate, experts say, can help identify groups of people at high risk for dementia. The number of heartbeats can be affected by various factors: medication, exercise, drinking certain drinks and more. However, rapid contraction of the heart muscle for no apparent reason may indicate the development of the disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The researchers came to this conclusion after conducting a study involving about 2,140 volunteers over 12 years, aged about 70 years. Throughout the study period, researchers observed changes in heart function, mental abilities and other changes in the psyche.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The results of the study showed that people with a resting heart rate of 80 beats per minute were more likely to develop signs of senile dementia compared with participants whose heart rate did not exceed 60-69 beats per minute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Researchers believe that closer monitoring of patients with rapid heartbeat can help take timely action and, with timely treatment, delay the development of dementia, while preserving people’s ability to live a full life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
