On March 21, at 4:30 a.m., ammonia leaked at the Sumykhimprom plant in Sumy. Currently, the affected area is about 2.5 km. The direction of the wind and the settlements that were under threat: p. Ammonia is a colorless gas with a pungent suffocating odor, well soluble in water. Explosive. Toxic. Ammonia is lighter than air, for protection it is necessary to use shelters, basements and lower floors of houses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rules of conduct in the conditions of emission (outflow) of ammonia:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 it is necessary to leave the infected area perpendicular to the wind direction;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 if it is not possible to leave the infected area, it is necessary to take shelter in shelters, basements, apartments (houses), pre-sealing windows, doors, ventilation (preferably a cloth soaked in citric acid or a weak solution of vinegar or water);<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 in the apartment (house) it is desirable to go to the bathroom and turn on the shower for fine spraying (water absorbs ammonia from the air), do not turn on ventilation (removes clean air and inhales contaminated);<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 if you smell ammonia – breathe through a damp gauze bandage (preferably moistened with 5% acetic or citric acid solution);<\/p>\n\n\n\n
First aid for ammonia poisoning:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 take the victim out into the fresh air;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 give him warm milk with baking soda;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 wear a cotton gauze bandage soaked in water, preferably 5% acetic or citric acid solution;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 in case of contact with eyes – rinse with water or wipe with Vaseline or olive oil;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 in case of skin lesions – wash with clean water, make lotions from 5% acetic or citric acid solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
