Republican leaders of U.S. Congress rejected a resolution that asserted that Joe Biden is president-elect, Axios reports.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
It is reported that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Rules Committee Chairman Roy Blunt of Missouri voted with House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy. Their decision prevented the inaugural committee from publicly accepting Biden’s upcoming inauguration.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
\u201cThe nation\u2019s legal and political system \u201cwill resolve any recounts or litigation.\u201d Said Mitch McConnell.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
And the House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer also said: “The extent to which Republicans are refusing to accept the outcome of the election and recognize Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as our next President and Vice President is astounding,”
While Biden has decided to appoint Retired General Lloyd Austin as the country’s secretary of defense.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
If the decision is officially made, Austin will be the first-ever Black defense secretary of the United States.
“General Austin is a southerner, has impeccable credentials given his military career, and would be an outstanding secretary for the department,\u201d said Rep. Bennie Thompson.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
