Participants of the action, who are no more than a hundred, gathered at the intersection of Bankova and Institutskaya streets. From here, as the organizers of the event announced, the “funeral procession” will go to the President’s Office. Some of the protesters are holding plastic flowers and lamps.<\/p>\n

According to the co-organizer of the action, Yevgeny Karas, the authorities want to bring random people to justice in the case of Sheremet’s murder.<\/p>\n

“If society does not resist such arbitrariness of the law enforcement and judicial system, tomorrow any” hangman “in a resonant criminal case can be attributed to any of the people and thus hang a crime on such a person,” he said.<\/p>\n

\nThe Sheremet case: what is known
\n\u2022 Sheremet died in the center of Kiev on the morning of July 20, 2016 as a result of a car explosion.
\n\u2022 On December 12, 2019, the National Police announced that a musician, ATO veteran Antonenko, pediatric cardiac surgeon Yulia Kuzmenko (pseudonym “Fox”), military nurse Yana Dugar were suspected of involvement in the murder.
\n\u2022 The investigation believed that Antonenko was the organizer of the murder, Kuzmenko planted explosives under the journalist’s car, and Dugar allegedly photographed surveillance cameras at the crime scene on the eve of the murder.
\n\u2022 The court chose Antonenko and Kuzmenko a measure of restraint in the form of detention, Dugar – a measure of restraint in the form of overnight house arrest.
\n\u2022 On August 11, the court changed Kuzmenko’s preventive measure from detention to round-the-clock house arrest.
\n\u2022 On May 21, Antonenko, Kuzmenko and Dugar added two more suspicions, and also changed the content of the previous one.
\n\u2022 According to Leonid Maslov, head of the Smysl Consulting law firm, Antonenko is already a performer by prior agreement, and Kuzmenko \u201conly laid the explosives together with Antonenko, but did not press the hook\u201d. In addition, the suspects are accused of destroying the car in which Sheremet was and storing explosives.
\n\u2022 Their case is being tried by a jury.
\n\u2022 On September 9, the court changed Dugar’s measure of restraint from a night house arrest to bail of UAH 168,000.
\n\u2022 On October 21, the Shevchenko District Court of Kiev, until December 19, extended the preventive measures for Antonenko and Kuzmenko and the procedural obligations for Dugar.<\/p>\n
