{"id":3665,"date":"2020-12-12T20:51:40","date_gmt":"2020-12-12T20:51:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ukrgate.com\/eng\/?p=3665"},"modified":"2021-04-01T12:07:59","modified_gmt":"2021-04-01T12:07:59","slug":"alimbekava-and-dale-are-ibu-biathlon-world-cup-champions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ukrgate.com\/eng\/?p=3665","title":{"rendered":"Alimbekava and Dale Are IBU Biathlon World Cup Champions!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Johannes Dale and Dzinara Alimbekava secured maiden International Biathlon Union (IBU) Biathlon World Cup victories in Hochfilzen in Austria.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Norway&#8217;s Dale outshone compatriots Johannes Thingnes B\u00f8 and Tarjei B\u00f8 to claim gold &#8211; and give the national selectors something to think about, having recently been omitted from the relay team.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dale was a clear winner with a clean shooting record in the men&#8217;s 10 kilometres sprint, finishing in a time of 23min 32.5sec.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">France&#8217;s Quentin Fillon Maillet had a return to form and came second, matching his best sprint performance on the World Cup circuit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The winner of the race was Frenchman Quentin Fillon Maye, who was 25.5 seconds ahead of his compatriot Emilien Jacqueline. Norwegian Johannes Dale took third place.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Ukrainians did not impress in the race: Artem Prima finished 43rd, and Anton Dudchenko &#8211; 45th.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the women&#8217;s 7.5km sprint, Belarus&#8217; Alimbekava won her first World Cup race thanks to a clean shooting record.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With eight of the top 10 requiring at least one penalty lap, the 24-year-old capitalised, finishing with a winning time of 20:12.3.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Norway&#8217;s Tiril Eckhoff took her first sprint medal of the season, but a penalty lap on the first round of shooting saw her finish 8.5sec off the lead to earn silver.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Eckhoff was second in the overall IBU World Cup standings last season.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Franziska Preu\u00df of Germany made the podium for the first time this season, despite having had to serve a penalty lap on her second round of shooting, and was 9.9 behind the winner.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Norway&#8217;s Marte Olsbu R\u00f8iseland and the Czech Republic&#8217;s Mark\u00e9ta Davidov\u00e1 also served a penalty lap each and rounded off the top five.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The fastest skier on the day was Julia Simon of France, but two missed targets spoiled her chances.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sweden&#8217;s Elvira \u00d6berg was down in 11th after two late penalties ruled her out of medal contention, finishing 37.3 behind the winner.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Her older sister Hanna had a day to forget, ending an unbeaten streak in the sprints this season by coming 29th.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">France&#8217;s Ana\u00efs Chevalier-Bouchet had a poor day too, missing four targets to end up 34th.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hanna \u00d6berg and Johannes Thingnes B\u00f8 still hold overall World Cup leads ahead of women&#8217;s relay and men&#8217;s pursuit contests tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Johannes Dale and Dzinara Alimbekava secured maiden International Biathlon Union (IBU) Biathlon World Cup victories in Hochfilzen in Austria.
