Ukraine will not accept surrogate versions or alternatives to EU candidate status.\u00a0The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba said this at a briefing on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Now about obtaining the status of a candidate for EU membership at the end of June this year. This, of course, is now just super zaruba. Our team, the President, has given this diplomatic team a very clear task – we must win this battle, and I want to reaffirm that we, the country, will not accept any surrogate versions or alternatives, however rosy, of candidate status. We need the status of a candidate for EU membership, not a candidate for candidates, not a potential candidate, not another surrogate, nothing like that, we have been playing this game for a long time, “Kuleba said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, Ukraine has earned the status of a candidate and meets the criteria for its nomination – this is the position not only of the government but also of civil society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minister noted that, indeed, there are skeptics who are trying to bribe Ukraine with some alternatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But there is less and less time, the clock is running out, but it is necessary to work, and therefore I beg you not to slow down, even if you are told to the last that “no, it’s impossible” – believe that it is possible, and let’s fight and overcome this skepticism, “he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Candidate status is the latest psychological barrier in EU skeptics that Ukraine must overcome, the diplomat added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greece and Cyprus reportedly<\/a> support Ukraine ‘s EU membership, but oppose speeding up the process, as suggested by several Eastern European countries. In this context, they mention the European aspirations of the Western Balkans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
