October .2022 | War News.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0The United Kingdom rejected Moscow&#8217;s call for a secret ballot in the UN General Assembly next week on whether Russia&#8217;s actions to annex four regions of Ukraine should be condemned, and demanded that the 193-member body vote publicly, writes The Guardian .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Details<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Britain&#8217;s ambassador to the United Nations, Barbara Woodward, said Friday that General Assembly rules clearly state that any representative can request a vote recorded in the report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She wrote to the chairman of the General Assembly: &#8220;Holding a secret ballot for the decision of the General Assembly would contradict decades of precedent and undermine the practice of the most representative advisory body in the world.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Context<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reuters\u00a0reported that the\u00a0General Assembly should vote on a draft resolution condemning Russia&#8217;s &#8220;illegal so-called referendums&#8221; and &#8220;attempted illegal annexation.&#8221; It also reaffirms Ukraine&#8217;s sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity and calls on states not to recognize Russia&#8217;s actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a letter to UN states earlier this week, Russia&#8217;s ambassador to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, reportedly lobbied for a secret ballot, arguing that Western lobbying means it &#8220;can be very difficult if positions are expressed publicly.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Source:\u00a0Ukrgate<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KYIV.
