Ukraine Gate &#8211; February 16, 2021 \u2013 Health<\/p>\n<p>Researchers at the QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute have developed a test that helps predict the effectiveness of treatment for patients with metastatic melanoma, one of the most aggressive cancers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The test measures the levels of the LC3B <a href=\"https:\/\/ukrgate.com\/eng\/?p=7658\">protein<\/a> in cancer cells. Elevated LC3B levels in patients are associated with high efficacy in melanoma therapy known as immune checkpoint inhibitor immunotherapy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The study found that the survival rate among patients with high levels of LC3B protein three years after melanoma therapy was 95% compared with 60% of patients with low levels of LC3B.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The study also found that patients with metastatic melanoma have very high levels of the epigenetic enzyme G9a, which acts on the LC3B protein.<\/p>\n<p>Read also:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ukrgate.com\/eng\/?p=6987\">Increasing in the Number of COVID-19 Patients in Ukraine!<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Scientists have found that inhibition of the G9a enzyme leads to higher levels of LC3B proteins, activating the body&#8217;s immune system to fight melanoma.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kiev.
