Tomato shoots emit a chemical<\/a> that warns other plants of danger and attracts avenging insects to tomatoes.<\/p>\n

When tomatoes are attacked by a caterpillar, the plants secrete a special enzyme. This is both a tomato’s plea for help and a warning to neighboring plants,<\/p>\n

University scientists have conducted several experiments with tomatoes. Initially, “launched” in makeshift greenhouses for plants of other pests. After the insects damaged the tomato leaves, the plants released a special chemical compound. This is a strong warning signal for other plants.<\/p>\n

Thus, during a caterpillar attack, the<\/a> tomato emits an odor that attracts wasps to it. They, in turn, feed on the caterpillar and thus have lunch and free the tomatoes from the attackers.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

However, in order not to be eaten, some insects “spray” tomatoes with a special enzyme. The pores in the leaves of the plant do not open, the substances are not released and the signal for help does not reach the recipient.<\/p>\n
