On this day in 1990, the Verkhovna Rada of the Republic of Lithuania adopted the Law to Restore the Independent State of Lithuania and its withdrawal from the Soviet Union.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Thus, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lithuania\">Lithuania<\/a> became the first Soviet republic to declare its independence. In January 1991, Soviet tanks and special forces were introduced into Vilnius to force Lithuania to abandon the Soviet Union.
