This year, the National Guard of Ukraine celebrates its seventh anniversary. Since 2014, employees of this military unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have been guarding the state border, fighting<\/a> crime, and also protecting strategic facilities of the state.<\/p>\n

Traditionally, the service in the National Guard is received either by conscription or by contract. The limiting number of the unit is about 60,000 troops throughout the country. The overwhelming majority are men, but every year the number of women in the army is gradually increasing.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Ksenia Zakharina is the first female commander in military unit No. 3054 of the National Guard of Ukraine. Today the girl has almost 90 servicemen under her command. She admits that from her youth she dreamed of military affairs.<\/p>\n

“I saw a woman in uniform when I was 16 years old and thought she was very beautiful. I realized that I also want to be like that. At first, my father did not understand this and did not want to let me go. It is difficult to understand when a 17-year-old girl wants to become a military man, \u201dsaid Ksenia Zakharina, deputy company commander of the National Guard of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Despite the fact that she constantly has to compete with men, Ksenia does not feel discomfort. Instead, she proves her professionalism on a daily basis. The soldiers admit that they do not feel any discomfort from the fact that their commander<\/a> is a woman. Indeed, in the army, everyone is on an equal footing.<\/p>\n

“I don\u2019t see any difference since we have a high-level gender policy in the country and there is no problem that a woman commands me. The main thing is skills and fulfillment of orders, \u201dsaid Sheikh Hasan Karim, a soldier of the National Guard of Ukraine.<\/p>\n
