Details
Three days of heavy rain over the weekend caused severe flooding in eight states, partially flooding towns and villages.
The government has been severely criticized for delaying the response to the disaster.
Several people have been declared missing, and fears are growing that the death toll will rise sharply.
As of Monday, about 51,000 people had been evacuated from their homes. Most were from Pahang on the east coast of Malaysia, one of the most affected states.
Selangor, a prosperous and populous state in which the capital Kuala Lumpur is located, has also been severely affected.
