Podoliak: people from Mariupol can be released in the form of an exchange

The release of people, including defenders, from Mariupol may take place in an exchange format during a meeting of negotiators between the Ukrainian and Russian delegations directly in the city under siege by the occupiers. This proposal was voiced by a member of the Ukrainian negotiating delegation, adviser to the head of the President’s Office Mykhailo Podoliak in an interview on the national telethon  .

“Why is it necessary … to gather there (in Mariupol – ed.) A certain number of people, for example, negotiators from both sides? hands, and that side says no – we will shoot then.We also say that, in my opinion, there is only one mechanism, when we will, for example, there will be someone else from the Russian side, and then we will agree, that we will pretend that this is an exchange, for example. That is, we give a certain number of people prisoners, but take away their people. They (defenders of Mariupol – ed.) will definitely not surrender weapons, “Podoliak said.

Ukraine demands from Russia an urgent humanitarian corridor from the Azovstal plant in Mariupol, which is estimated to house about a thousand civilians and Ukrainian defenders, including about 500 wounded.

Defenders of Mariupol are ready to evacuate with the support of a third party from the city with their small arms.
