In a report with preliminary results released on Tuesday, the company said it had spent $ 18 million to $ 19 million in the first quarter of 2021 to investigate and eliminate what it described as a “cyber incident.”
SolarWinds has been working since December to deal with the effects of a series of cyberattacks blamed on Russian hackers, including US government resources and many private companies. In many cases, hackers have used one version of SolarWinds Orion, a widely used network management tool.
SolarWinds has hired cybersecurity company CrowdStrike Holdings Inc and KPMG, a professional cybersecurity firm, to investigate cyberattacks. The company said its costs are likely to rise.
“We expect that in the future we will incur significant costs for legal and other professional services related to the cyber incident,” the company said.
The hacking of computer networks of the Ministry of Finance and the US Department of Commerce was reported on December 13 last year. US authorities have been subjected to a large-scale cyber attack through SolarWinds software. The media claimed that the attack was carried out by the group Cozy Bear (also known as APT29), which is associated with the FSB and SVR.
