Facebook and Instagram are thinking about introducing the option to hide “likes”. The new feature is already being actively tested by users of the second of these social networks. The tests are carried out all over the world.

Testing of the option to hide “likes” started at the end of the year before last. Then only Instagram users who were especially close to the developers could take part in the tests.
A few days ago, the testing area spread to the whole world in general and Facebook in particular. If the tests are considered successful, the regulars of both social networks will be able to choose the following modes of “like”, namely:
leave the current content rating mode;
not see the number of “likes” received by unauthorized users;
to close the number of collected “likes” from outsiders.
Representatives of both social networks selected to participate in trials of the new opportunity will receive written invitations.
The need to implement the option to hide “likes” in Mark Zuckerberg’s company is explained by the desire to “focus users on the quality of the information provided.” This, allegedly, will allow not to be distracted by studying the popularity of posts and will relieve the temptation to artificially wind up “likes”.
