French President Emmanuel Macron plans to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the near future.
This is stated in a statement by the Elysee Palace after the meeting of the French leader with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, published on Saturday, April 17.
In particular, it is noted that Macron and Zelensky spoke via video link with Merkel.
“They jointly noted that the conclusions of the Paris Summit of December 9, 2019, remain fully relevant and require Russia to cooperate with Ukraine to facilitate their implementation. The President will soon hold talks with President Putin,” the statement said.
In addition, Macron reaffirmed France’s commitment to the unity and sovereignty of Ukraine and noted the difficulty of reaching an agreement on the situation in eastern Ukraine and the risks of escalation.
