With the release of iOS 14.5, Apple introduced an application tracking transparency feature that prohibits developers from accessing the iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV ad ID without the user’s permission. Now the company has released a video explaining why it is needed.

Apple claims that this feature gives users the choice of how applications use and share personal data.
The video describes the types of data that applications have access to, such as location, age, health information, spending habits, and browsing history. The company notes that data collection can be useful for tracking jogs or giving a local store the ability to advertise discounts when you’re around, but “some apps use more data than they need,” and share it with advertisers. Apparently, this applies more to Facebook.
Some applications collect “thousands of pieces of information about you” to create a digital profile, which is then sold to others for targeted advertising.
The most striking remark in the video was the following statement: “Your information is for sale, you have become a product.”
