This was reported by the President of the Transcarpathian Tourist Organization, tourism expert Fedor Shandor.
According to him, due to bad weather, the flowering of sakura began a little later than expected.
“We predicted that the flowering of sakura trees will begin in Transcarpathia approximately on April 20, but due to cooling and rains the trees began to bloom a little later, so only now we see the beginning of a truly mass flowering,” said Sandor.
He noted that the first sakura blossoms in Berehove – this is the warmest region of Transcarpathia. Later, trees in Mukachevo and Uzhhorod were covered with flowers, and now flowering is beginning in other districts as well.
According to the expert, currently almost the largest number of Japanese cherry trees have been planted in Uzhhorod.
“According to official estimates of the city’s communal services, about 2,000 sakura trees have been planted, and according to unofficial estimates, that is, taking into account those trees that are in private use, there are about 5,000 of them,” Shandor said.
He added that in recent years sakura trees have been actively planted in other cities and districts of Transcarpathia.
“We are aware that currently there are about 50,000 sakura trees in the region, and they have become a real symbol of Transcarpathia,” said Sandor.
According to the tourism expert, sakura trees will bloom in Uzhhorod at least until the tenth of May, a little longer in the region, so everyone will still have time to admire them.
“And after the sakura trees, tourists will find no less beautiful spectacles – flowering daffodil valley, lavender mountain and Damascus rose plantations, the last two – the largest in Western Ukraine,” – said Sandor.
