Technology expert Ashkan Soltani drew attention to the report. “It simply came to our notice then. Facebook and Instagram are studying intimidation tactics in the battle with Apple in an update for iOS14, ”Soltani wrote on Twitter.
iPhone owners who upgraded their phones to iOS 14.5 began to receive messages. It stipulates that any application that wants to access user activity must require permission to collect data.
“Help keep Facebook free,” she said in a message from the social network, in which she asked the user to share personal information from other applications and websites. A similar request appeared on Instagram.
An update to Apple’s operating system with a new privacy policy was released in late April. The changes still allow applications to collect personal information from other applications without the permission of users. However, in this case, it is forbidden to transfer it to third parties.
To track user activity and share it with their partners, developers must obtain explicit permission from the device owner.
Facebook has been critical of the innovations, saying new aspects of the privacy policy could hurt small businesses that use targeted social media advertising to reach customers.
In 2019, Facebook removed from the home page its former slogan “It’s free, and will always be” (“It’s free, and it will always be”). It was replaced by a new one – “Registration. Quick and easy” (Sign up. It’s quick and easy). At the same time, the rules of the social network said: “We do not guarantee that the platform will always be free.”
In 2018, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, who testified in the US Senate, did not rule out the creation of a paid version of the social network, which will not be advertising.
