President Volodymyr Zelensky and Latvian President Eagles Levits signed a joint declaration on the European Perspective of Ukraine. Thus, Latvia became the third European country, after Lithuania and Poland, to legally support Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.

The signing took place during a video conference between Levites and Zelensky, while the Ukrainian leader was on a business trip to the Luhansk region, the president’s office reported.
As a result of the talks, a joint declaration on the European perspective for Ukraine was signed, in which the two leaders welcomed the significant progress made in implementing the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, supported the need for its modernization, and agreed on the need for a strategic strategy. The review of the Eastern Partnership Initiative intends to intensify joint efforts to support Ukraine’s integration into the European Union ”.
The country’s leaders have agreed that Latvia will support Ukraine when it is ready to apply for European Union membership. At the same time, Levitz stressed that his country is ready to assist Ukraine with its professional experience in managing European reforms and integration.
“I very much hope that in this decade Ukraine will become a full member of the European Union, having implemented all the necessary reforms,” he said.
Separately, the leaders of the two countries discussed the worsening situation in the temporarily occupied Crimea. In particular, the President of Latvia confirmed his participation in the inaugural summit of the Crimean platform, which will be held in Kyiv on August 23. In addition, the two sides discussed reviving trade and economic cooperation between the two countries to reach pre-crisis levels.
On May 4, President Volodymyr Zelensky and Polish leader Andrzej Duda signed a joint declaration on the European perspective of Ukraine.
During his visit to Poland, President Volodymyr Zelensky also signed a five-nation joint declaration committed to continuing dialogue and cooperation. The document was signed by Ukraine, Poland, Estonia, Ukraine, Latvia, and Lithuania.
On March 18, President Volodymyr Zelensky and Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda signed a declaration supporting Ukraine’s European perspective.
According to a survey conducted by the SOCIS Center for Social and Marketing Research, most Ukrainians are ready to support Ukraine’s accession to NATO or the European Union.
