Blueberry, despite numerous reviews of the difficulties of its cultivation – the culture is unpretentious. It is well accustomed to the climatic conditions of Ukraine and pleases gardeners with consistently good yields of delicious large berries. However, with one caveat: if you choose a sunny place for seedlings, sheltered from the cold northern winds and the right soil. Clay soil, experts say, is absolutely not suitable for growing blueberries.

If we use this type of soil (clay), respectively, dig a seat about 40 by 40 cm, up to 35 cm deep, and fill this planting hole with peat. Peat, which has an acidic reaction medium. Its acidity can be from 3.5 to 5 maximum. Sometimes up to 5.5 is recommended, but this is no longer the optimum for this culture.
However, light soils also require composition adjustment. This will increase yields.
If you have soil that is light in mechanical composition: sandy, loamy – you can grow on them, but you need to add this organic component, because on one mineral substrate blueberries will not grow. In any case, useless horse peat, mix, and plant.
A properly prepared planting hole will help the seedling to strengthen faster and begin fruiting. At the same time, we do not forget about an important agronomic method of growing blueberries – soil acidification.
Acidity must be maintained using colloidal sulfur. On the Internet, you can find that you can dilute both vinegar and electrolyte. Someone advises using jam that has fermented for this purpose. But these are not the drugs that are painless for the growth and development of blueberries. There are small sachets of 200 g of colloidal sulfur, respectively, up to 20-30 g per bush, around the bush sprinkled with this sulfur. But it is the contact with the soil that is important because sulfur does not dissolve in water and sulfur is used as a fungicide.
However, when using acidifying drugs, it is important to remember moderation. It would be ideal to find out the acidity of the soil in blueberry plantings to develop a scheme of sulfur application.
If the soil is not sufficiently acidic, a single application in the spring of 20-30 g per bush will be more than enough. If it is closer to a neutral environment, it is necessary to carry out this operation both in the spring and in the fall.
In fact, these are all the main secrets of growing blueberries. Agree, it’s easy. Plus, of course, like all plants, the crop needs preventive treatments and fertilization during the season.
