Some do so, others advise never to do so: the question of planting garlic in strawberries is ambiguous. One thing is for sure: everyone knows about the joint planting of these crops. In this article, we will try to understand who is right, what are the pros and cons of such a landing, and how to do it best.

Pros of joint landings
Pest protection
If the owner of the garden does not want to use pesticides but also gives the crop to eat insects also does not want to, many resorts to the joint planting of strawberries and garlic. Generational experience shows that in this case, garlic saves strawberries from pests.
Rational use of land
Not everyone has plotted with a large number of acres. Someone has to put all the plantings on a small piece of land. That is why often strawberries and garlic are planted together, as they do not interfere with each other’s growth.
Prevention of soil depletion
To ensure that the plants grow well and do not lack minerals and other valuable elements, gardeners and gardeners must adhere to crop rotation, ie in the same area each year to grow different crops that consume and release into the soil different trace elements.
Do you need strawberries and garlic?
Aiming to prevent soil depletion, landowners use both hands to plant garlic and strawberries together, as garlic releases volatiles into the soil during growth – substances that have the ability to destroy harmful microorganisms or slow down their activity. It is thanks to these phytoncides that strawberries grow healthy, do not rot, and are not damaged by the fungus.
Also, the smell of garlic and volatiles emitted by it scare away insects such as beetles, mites, weevils, snails, and others. Therefore, these pests do not get to the sweet berry and do not spoil it.
Another view: garlic and strawberries can not be planted together
There is another opinion, according to which strawberries when planted together with garlic do not rot and do not get sick just because there is nothing to get sick: there are no berries, there are only bushes.
It turns out that garlic does not have a positive effect on the health of berries, on the contrary, when planted together berries grow poorly or do not grow at all.
And there is a third version: it is not the fact of joint landing that is important, but its correctness. Proponents of this view believe that it is important to plant garlic between strawberry bushes, not chaotically. And even better – when they are neighbors in different territories or garlic is a precursor.
An example of a neighborhood is when several rows of berries are planted, then an empty row is left, and after an empty row, several rows of garlic are planted.
An example of a predecessor is when garlic was first planted in the ground, then it was dug up and strawberries were planted in its place.
To plant or not to plant?
When working with soil, we advise you to be guided by your own observations and knowledge. After all, a lot depends on the region, soil quality, fertilizers, and other factors that may affect the result. Only in an independent experiment, you will understand whether the joint planting of garlic has a beneficial effect on the quality of strawberries, or in your case it does not work.
