The embroidered shirt unites Ukrainians. This truth was confirmed by the residents of the village of Novyi Dvir of the Turian community: on the Day of Embroidery more than two hundred villagers took part in the patriotic action “Towel of Unity”.

The youngest of those who joined were the pupils of the kindergarten, and the oldest was the well-known and highly respected embroiderer in the village, Olena Chornozub, who will turn 85 on June 1. Aunt Yelya, as everyone in the village calls her, deserved such respect for her kindness and golden hands. When the St. Michael’s Ukrainian Orthodox Autocephalous Church began to function in the village, the woman immediately set out to arrange it: the iconostasis, vestments, shroud, and almost all the icons in the church were embroidered by Olena Chornozub.
According to the organizers of the action, Aunt Yelya and her love of embroidery inspire such events to become a thread of unity of different generations, past and present.

The “Towel of Unity” campaign started from the school, where first-graders were the first to fall asleep in colorful embroidered shirts on both sides of the main road, then more than a hundred students with local school teachers, villagers, and the youngest participants – kindergarten students – closed the embroidered towel rope.
The organizers had a plan to unite the two spiritual centers of the village – the church and the house of culture, which that day housed an exhibition of ancient embroidery.
The ideological inspiration for such an event was the director of the local cultural institution Lyudmyla Derzhanovych, who wanted to celebrate it in a special way on the 15th anniversary of the Day of Embroidery. The school staff and the headmaster Ruslana Veremchuk gladly supported a good idea and together helped to realize the interesting idea.
– It is nice when the community unites and unites and the reason for this is such beautiful holidays as Embroidery Day, – said the head of the Turian community Alexei Bezsmertny, who also joined the action. – After all, an embroidered shirt, an embroidered towel, as well as state symbols, have a sacred meaning for our people.
