Germany will simplify the commissioning of unmanned vehicles and buses and allow their use in certain areas. The Bundestag on the night of Friday, May 21, passed a law according to which, for example, shuttle buses and trucks will be put into regular operation over short distances.

The rules apply to fully autonomous driving of the so-called fourth level of automation. This means that cars will be able to move without the participation of the driver. In emergencies, remote intervention from the control center is possible.
The German Ministry of Transport said that Germany was thus the first country to put unmanned vehicles into regular operation.
Until now, in Germany, the use of autonomous vehicles required a special permit, for example, for the so-called People Mover – an automated system for transporting passengers on business premises. In addition, executive class cars already have built-in automatic overtaking, lane-changing, or braking systems.
