The UN Aviation Agency, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), said it was “deeply concerned” about the forced landing of a Ryanair aircraft in Belarus.

The organization suggests that the incident could be a violation of the 1944 Chicago Convention, which underlies the activities of modern civil aviation.
“ICAO is very concerned about the apparently forced landing of Ryanair and its passengers, which may be contrary to the Chicago Convention. We are waiting for additional information, officially confirmed by the countries and operators involved, “- said in a statement ICAO, reports radiosvoboda.
Ryanair’s statement on the forced landing of the plane in Minsk
On the evening of May 23, Ryanair Airlines announced its position on the incident that caused the landing of a plane en route from Athens to Vilnius at the airport in the Belarusian capital, Minsk.
A statement from Ryanair said that the crew “was informed by the Belarusian Air Traffic Authority about the potential security threat onboard and was instructed to change the direction of flight to the nearest airport, Minsk.”
At the same time, the flight trajectory recorded by the Flightradar24 service shows that the plane was actually closer to Vilnius than to Minsk at the time of the turn.
Ryanair claims that inspections in Minsk did not reveal “anything dangerous”, and the plane (which was to land in Vilnius shortly after 13:00) was able to leave Minsk at 20:50 local time.
