The Spanish playwright Lope de Vega (1562-1635) was recognized as the author of the comedy play “I did what I could, and fate did what I wanted,” which was previously thought to have belonged to the little-known writer Miguel Bermudez. This was reported by the press service of the University of Valladolid.

The original copy of the work, published in 1632-1634 by the Francisco de Leary printing house in Seville, is currently housed in the National Library of Spain. Two more copies were printed in the XVIII century, as their author is Bermudez.
The author of the study of this comedy was a professor of Spanish literature at the University of Geneva, Abraham Madrognal. He found that hundreds of expressions and individual poetic fragments of comedy are present in other works of the Spanish playwright.
Lope de Vega is the author of plays such as “The Dog in the Hay”, “The Widow of Valencia”, “The Star of Seville”, and many other works.
