“Ukrainians mischaracterized the statement and corrected the recording,” a US National Security Council spokesman told Axios.
Asked for clarification, the White House reportedly declined to comment on whether Biden supported the idea of proposing a NATO Membership Action Plan to Ukraine this year.
Corrected statement
Thus, the Office of the President initially stated on its official website that Biden “noted the full support for Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic integration and the importance of providing the Ukrainian state with an Action Plan for Alliance membership.”
As of Monday morning, the statement on the OP website did not mention Biden’s position on granting the MAP to Ukraine.
“He (Biden – ed.) Assured that Ukraine’s position will be taken into account when discussing strategic issues in NATO, as well as planned top-level events. Volodymyr Zelensky noted the importance of providing the Ukrainian state with an Action Plan for membership in the Alliance, ”the statement reads.
On Monday, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had a telephone conversation with President of the United States of America Joe Biden.
The talks took place on the eve of the NATO summit, as well as Biden’s summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
