CMA has been analyzing Amazon’s business for several months, focusing on how the company uses the data it collects on its platform. The investigation may focus on whether the company prefers vendors who also use its logistics and delivery services, informed sources told the publication.
According to them, the focus of the British investigation will probably be the same aspects on which the representatives of the European Commission (EC) are focused.
The EC is currently conducting two antitrust investigations into Amazon.
As part of one of them studied business practices of the company aimed at providing greater visibility on the platform and other illegal preferences of their proposals compared with independent sellers who use its e-mail infrastructure, logistics, and delivery. The rules for using Amazon services, according to the EC, knowingly and intentionally restrict the rights of independent sellers on its platform.
Another investigation, launched in November 2020, concerns, according to the European Commission, Amazon’s illegal use of all information it receives about other companies’ transactions on its platform for accurate marketing of its own products.
