More than 400,000 people are suffering from hunger due to the fighting in the Tigray region.

At their first public meeting on the crisis, members of the UN Security Council warned that about 33,000 children suffer from severe malnutrition. Officials said another 1.8 million people were on the brink of starvation as a result of the eight-month conflict.
The region is experiencing “the worst famine situation we have seen in decades,” said Ramesh Rajasingham, a senior UN aid official.
“About 5.2 million people still need humanitarian assistance – the vast majority of them are women and children,” he added.
The Ethiopian government, which is struggling with regional Tihreyi forces announced a unilateral cease-fire. However, the rebels have promised to expel their “enemies” from the region, and there have been reports of sporadic clashes as international pressure grows to retreat on all sides.
About 41 million people worldwide are at immediate risk of starvation, the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) has warned, saying rising food prices are exacerbating existing food security pressures.
