According to the head of the press center of the Emergency Committee Umed Yusufi, five people died in the village of Langari Shaw in the region of Tojikobod. Two minors from the village of Hijborak, Rasht district, were injured and later hospitalized.
According to preliminary data, an earthquake in two villages in the epicenter of the event damaged 19 houses.
A magnitude 5.9 earthquake shook northern Tajikistan on Saturday, according to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC).
The quake was recorded at 02:14 GMT, 170 km southeast of the city of Khujand, with the epicenter located at a depth of 40 km, according to EMSC.
