Ukrainian gymnast Oleh Vernyaev will not go to the Olympic Games in Tokyo. He wrote about this on Facebook.
Kyiv. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – July 13, 2021 – Sport
“The GEF arbitration has ruled that the concentration of meldonium found in my body is sufficient to disqualify me for 4 years. Since November last year. This means that I will not go to the Olympics, “the athlete wrote.
At the same time, Vernyaev notes that he does not know how the banned drug got into his body.
“Why did this happen at a time when there were no serious international competitions and training was held in a light mode? Why did only one test give a positive result, and none of the nearly a dozen subsequent tests confirmed the presence of a banned substance? A positive test only indicates the presence of a prohibited substance in the body but does not indicate the guilt of the athlete. If an athlete is sure that he is not to blame, he should not give up, “Vernyaev stressed.
He added that the arbitration decision can be appealed.
“I believe that the highest sports court will put everything in its place,” the athlete concluded.
Earlier this year, Ukrainian Olympic gymnastics champion Oleg Vernyayev was suspended from the competition, the International Gymnastics Federation said. Details were not disclosed then. Gymnast coach Gennady Sartynsky said that the International Gymnastics Federation forbade him to comment on anything.
Oleg Vernyaev won the “gold” and “silver” of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 2019, he won the “bronze” of the World Cup in Stuttgart, Germany, and the “silver” of the European Games.
