Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko called the sanctions against the online retailer Wildberries another step in the struggle to cleanse the Ukrainian information space of Russian expansion.
Kyiv. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – July 24, 2021 – Ukraine Society and Culture
In his Telegram, he thanked the president and the National Security and Defense Council for the decision on sanctions.
” Retail from the Russian Federation, which, among other things, sold Russian propaganda and the uniform of Russian soldiers, will not work in Ukraine,” the minister wrote.
According to him, “theses, books, narratives – no place in Ukraine” and the Ministry of Culture will do everything possible to counter information threats.
” The next step is Russian OTT platforms,” Tkachenko added.
In September 2020, it became known that Wildberries are going to enter the Ukrainian market. On the retailer’s website, users found products with the symbols of the Russian Federation and the USSR. Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko stated that sanctions could be imposed on Wildberries, and submitted a draft order to the Cabinet of Ministers.
The day before, Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decision of the National Security and Defense Council to impose sanctions. The sanctions list includes the Wildberries online store and its management.
