American Intel Corp. (SPB: INTC), one of the world’s leading manufacturers of computer components, has unveiled plans for future products.
Kyiv. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – July 27, 2021 – Technology
The company plans to produce at least one central processing unit, or “brain” of modern computers, every year from 2021 to 2025, according to CEO Pat Gelsinger during a presentation at the Intel Accelerated event. Each new processor is expected to be based on more advanced technologies than the previous one.
The company has confirmed its intention to release a new desktop CPU this year and one for servers in the first quarter of 2022. Intel delayed the release of a server chip earlier this year to add features due to manufacturing issues.
Intel plans to release the next series of processors for personal computers and servers in 2023.
In addition, Intel announced that it is changing the nomenclature used for semiconductors, eliminating the use of nanometers to designate the size of transistors on computer chips.
Intel plans to start production of Intel 7 chips in the first quarter of 2022, Intel 4 in the second half of 2022, and Intel 3 in the second half of 2023.
In early 2025, the company intends to begin the production of Intel 20A and Intel 18A chips. The name of these chips refers to their microscopic dimensions, measured in angstroms, and not in nanometers, which are currently used to determine the size of the transistor, writes The Wall Street Journal.
“We are accelerating our innovation plans to make sure we are on track to become a leader in process performance by 2025,” Gelsinger said.
Investors, meanwhile, were not impressed by the presentation. Intel was down 3% on Monday’s conference call and was down 2.5% by the end.
