Every citizen has the right to peaceful protest, but any acts of violence against other participants in the peaceful assembly, as well as against law enforcement officers, will not go unpunished.
Kyiv. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – August 15, 2021 – Ukraine News
This was announced by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denys Monastyrskyi on his Facebook page after the protest action outside the office of the President.
“To ensure the safety of both protesters and law enforcement officers, it was decided to conduct a superficial inspection for the absence of life-threatening objects – weapons, explosives, flammable substances, etc.,” the minister wrote.
However, he added, the protesters refused to pass such an inspection, and instead of complying with the lawful demands of the police, they began to break through the borders of law enforcement officers, as a result of which 8 law enforcement officers were injured and burned.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted over the infliction of bodily injuries on police officers. The perpetrators will be held accountable under the law.
In addition, two journalists were injured in the riots.
“Every citizen can exercise his constitutional right to participate in peaceful and safe rallies, but without fights and bloodshed. Any acts of violence, both against other participants in the peaceful assembly and against law enforcement officers, will not go unpunished,” he added.
We will remind, on August 14 near the office of the president on Bankova the protest action organized by the “National case” took place. As a result of the riots that began, both law enforcement officers and the National Guard were injured.
