Endocrinologists told what drowsiness is associated with after eating and how to avoid it.

Doctors explained that this phenomenon is associated with the production in the brain of a substance called orexin. It is responsible for the feeling of excitement, appetite, and wakefulness. Eating foods that are rich in carbohydrates leads to the fact that its activity is suppressed, and this provokes drowsiness.
“Our brain has a department called the hypothalamus. It produces, among other things, a substance called orexin. It affects arousal, wakefulness, and appetite,” they explained.
In order not to fall asleep after a meal, experts recommend avoiding excessive consumption of carbohydrates in one meal and control blood sugar levels.
