“The press is spreading information that Gazprom has resumed gas transit through Ukraine to Hungary. This is not true, ”the head of the OGTSU wrote.
Thus, according to Makogon, there is currently a small flow of gas from Ukraine to Hungary.
“But this is not transit, but re-export of gas by European traders, which they kept in Ukrainian underground storage facilities,” he explained.
The day before, the media reported that gas transit through Ukraine to Hungary had resumed. It was reported that the flow of fuel through the border checkpoint “Beregovo”, according to 23:30, amounted to more than 200 thousand cubic meters. m / year
The Russian company Gazprom has stopped the transit of natural gas through Ukraine to Hungary since October 1.
Conflict over the gas contract
Hungary has signed a long-term contract with Russia’s Gazprom to supply gas bypassing Ukraine.
In Ukraine, they said they were surprised and disappointed by this decision.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine announced that it had initiated the postponement of the meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Hungarian Commission on Economic Cooperation to a later date.
The Ukrainian side will also apply to the Commission to assess the compliance of the new Hungarian-Russian gas agreement with European energy legislation. OGTSU head Serhiy Makogon stated that after the contract with Gazprom, the operator of Ukraine’s gas transmission system expects a significant reduction or complete cessation of transit to Hungary via Ukraine.
Hungary has reacted harshly to criticism of official Kyiv for its long-term contract with Russia’s Gazprom. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Siyarto said that Ukraine interferes in the internal affairs of the state.
On the morning of September 28, the Hungarian Foreign Ministry summoned the Ambassador of Ukraine over a dispute over Budapest’s agreements with the Russian company Gazprom. The Hungarian Foreign Minister decided to declare that this step is unfriendly after all the support that Ukraine has received from Hungary.
It later became known that the Ukrainian side had similarly summoned the Hungarian ambassador. Later, the head of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba called on journalists not to stir up emotions now.
“They often say different things about Ukraine that we don’t like, but we don’t react to them emotionally,” Kuleba said.
At the same time, Moscow stated that the new long-term contract between Hungary and Russia’s Gazprom to supply gas to the country bypassing Ukraine allegedly “does not violate anyone’s rights,” and “Kyiv has no right to interfere in this aspect of bilateral relations between Moscow and Budapest.”.
