Kyiv.Ukraine.Ukraine Gate – November 16,2021- The press and public relations service of the German Federal Network Agency said that Ukrainian companies that will participate in the certification process of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline will not have a veto.
“The Federal Network Agency can confirm that today it has invited the National Joint Stock Company“ Naftogaz of Ukraine ”and LLC“Operator of the Gas Transmission System of Ukraine ”to the certification process. These companies have procedural rights to participate in practical administrative procedures, in particular the right to comment, However, the veto is not about that,” the statement read.
Earlier, NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine and LLC GTS of Ukraine announced that the Federal Grid Agency of Germany had satisfied their applications for participation in the certification process of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline operator.
Naftogaz Chairman of the Board Yuriy Vitrenko stated that the Ukrainian side is ready to provide the regulator with its legal position on the impossibility of Nord Stream 2 certification in the near future without ensuring its full compliance with European and international legislation. He hopes that BNetzA will take these arguments into account.
As reported, the construction of Nord Stream 2 was completed in early September. The pipeline was built from Russia to Germany at the bottom of the Baltic Sea, bypassing Ukraine. The only shareholder in the project is Gazprom.
The pipeline is currently awaiting certification by a German regulator, which must make a decision by January 8, 2022.
In October, Naftogaz and OGTSU submitted applications to the German regulator to participate in the certification procedure for the gas operator Nord Stream 2.
