kyiv.Ukraine.Ukraine Gate – November 27,2021- Interior Minister Denis Monastyrsky announced that since the beginning of this year, the police have received 267,000 reports of domestic violence, an increase of 53% over the same period in 2020.
“Domestic violence can affect everyone: women, men, children and parents, as well as the elderly, and it can have different forms and manifestations,” Monastirsky said. According to him, if a child experiences domestic violence, he takes him to kindergarten and school, to the street and to his peers. He grows up with him and is already broadcast in adulthood. Moreover, violence takes on a social scope.
The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said that law enforcement officers are working to solve this problem in a comprehensive manner: they are cooperating with international partners, public organizations and the deputy corps.
The main tool for overcoming domestic violence, according to Monastyrsky, is the broadest information about its causes and consequences, as well as about ways of avoiding and counteracting.
Currently, 86 specialized mobile groups for responding to cases of domestic violence operate in 67 cities of Ukraine. Where they are not yet available, other police units are involved. Also, the Ministry of Internal Affairs is actively working on a pilot project “Safety Educator”, which provides, in particular, the prevention and professional response to violence in schools. The minister added that a special educational exhibition on counteracting domestic violence “Rich u TIM 2.0” was opened in Kiev.
The minister stressed that this is not a one-time action, but a component of the large-scale national campaign of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Within its framework, regional police teams, together with local authorities, carry out a number of educational activities.
On November 25, the All-Ukrainian campaign “16 Days Against Violence” was launched , which will last until December 10.
