Three passengers and two crew members were on board the Malu Aviation, which took off from the city of Goma and headed for Shabunda in the province of South Kivu.
“We have just launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident,” said Shabunda administrator Diedonne Cashombanya. “We sympathize with all the families of the victims.”
The Malu Aviation website states that the company offers both cargo and charter flights to the region.
Let’s add
Air crashes are not uncommon in eastern Congo, although flights are still considered safer than ground travel because the region is home to many armed groups.
At least 27 people died in 2019 when a small plane crashed in a densely populated part of Goma.
