The drone weighs 1.8 g. It is 25 times lighter than other radio-powered micro-vehicles developed earlier.
“One of the key features of our work is the highly efficient operation of the swings, which is achieved through the use of a powerful single-crystal piezoelectric material, with the two wings facing each other like clapping hands. This design provides a good balance of power and weight and ensures the efficiency of flight, as in living insects, “- said one of the developers of the device Takashi Ozaki.
Scientists have conducted many experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of the design.
“During the tests, we came to the conclusion that not only flying work, but also various other devices that require high power at a small size, can be implemented without batteries,” – added Ozaki.
