Buckwheat groats
Buckwheat is a cereal that belongs to the group of universal. It can be prepared both for breakfast – as a morning porridge, and for dinner – as a side dish to a hot dish. Buckwheat deserves attention not only because of its taste, but also a whole set of vitamins and nutrients: calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, proteins, fats and carbohydrates. The latter, by the way, are very few, so buckwheat can be safely included in dietary products: hearty and low in calories! Buckwheat can and should be eaten by absolutely everyone, especially diabetics – it helps to normalize blood sugar levels and saturates the body.
Oatmeal
Oatmeal is a favorite breakfast of dieters. Fiber is known to speed up metabolism and cleanse the intestines. A healthy and clean gut is the basis for keeping your body in great shape. But who would have thought that for men this cereal is even more useful! Oatmeal reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease, and it is known that men suffer from such diseases more often than women. By consuming about 25 g of fiber a day, you significantly reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. 25 g of fiber is just a plate of morning oatmeal. Oatmeal is the only useful analogue of buckwheat. Oatmeal contains fiber, which can literally work wonders in the presence of diabetes. The researchers even conducted an experiment: they gave diabetics 100 g of oatmeal a day, and after a few weeks it became noticeable not only lower cholesterol, but also the lack of need for insulin in patients.
Rice groats
The popularity of rice in our kitchen is quite justified. Cook it easily and quickly, and what else does a woman who lives in the rhythm of a big city need? Rice has another tangible plus – variety. Different varieties of rice groats are designed for different purposes: “long” rice is good for pilaf, a side dish to meat or fish dishes, for minced meat, and “short” almost round grains of rice are ideal for making liquid porridges and soups. Unpeeled or “brown” rice is good because it contains all kinds of fiber and nutrients that are only available in cereals. Eating rice helps lower blood pressure.
Semolina
Semolina is considered the most high-calorie dish that can be prepared from cereals. If you have problems with the stomach or weight regulation (up to dystrophy), it is an inexpensive, useful and easy to prepare medicine. Semolina is obtained from the central part of the wheat grain, which means that it, like wheat, is high in protein. Semolina is very tasty, but poorly digested by children. And children under one year, according to the latest medical research in this area, it is not recommended to apply. Semolina is not recommended for diabetics, atherosclerosis and people who are overweight. The most useful semolina is made from whole wheat and it looks much darker than usual.
Wheat groats
Wheat germ is a source of vitamins and minerals. Wheat is dominated by vitamins B and E, as well as protein, which is indispensable in the presence of regular exercise. It is enough to eat only one tablespoon (25 kcal) of wheat germ to meet the body’s daily need for protein, and a quarter cup of germ contains 8 g of protein.
Warning! Do not confuse wheat groats with millet groats. Wheat groats are obtained from wheat, and millet from millet (another, less caloric type of grain)
Wheat germ is able to regulate the stomach and help a sick heart. Vegetable protein also enters the body with wheat groats. Wheat germ tastes like nuts, and wheat bran ranks first among cereals in terms of fiber content (in one quarter of a cup of bran – 60 kcal). Pearl barley
Pearl barley is not a very frequent guest at our tables, but in vain. This is especially true for those who play sports. Barley groats
Barley is the largest grain of all cereals. The above-mentioned pearl barley and barley groats are made from barley grains. Barley groats contain a large amount of vegetable protein, as well as fiber and protein. Despite the high content of the latter, barley groats do not contain sodium, so it does not contribute to weight gain. From barley groats prepare porridges, soups, add to pilaf and brine, used for stuffing stuffed poultry and vegetables, as well as a side dish.
Pumpkin groats
Pumpkin seeds contain potassium, which is good for the heart. Pumpkin groats are also a natural aphrodisiac for women (aphrodisiacs in food, by the way, are not so few) and promote weight loss. There is also fiber in cereals, which cleanses the body. Pumpkin seeds are used to make porridge, soups and flour for confectionery.
Corn grits are high in fiber, which cleanses the digestive tract, and corn kernels can reduce fermentation and flatulence in the intestines, which means that they improve digestion. Corn porridge is the second (after pumpkin) “baby” porridge, it can be fed to children from 9 months.
