Which people want more in life – selfish or altruistic. We found out which of them can achieve more in life.
Altruists and egotists are completely different people: if the former sacrifice everything for the common good, the latter act only in their own interests, not caring for others,

Selfishness and altruism are completely opposite directions with different goals and values. Selfish people often care only about themselves, not caring about the needs of even those closest to them, and altruists, on the contrary, are willing to sacrifice their own interests to help others. It is difficult to say which of these qualities will help to succeed easier and faster. However, we did a little research to find out and compare the ways in which altruists and egotists succeed, and which of them are more likely in life to experience victory.
Selfish people know their price
Egoists are convinced that absolutely everything in this world has a price – including them. Knowing the price of self-esteem, and its value, probably, and do not argue. Respecting yourself is very important, adequate self-esteem is the key to success: if it is underestimated or overestimated, do not expect anything good.
Some altruists, on the other hand, tend to underestimate their self-esteem, devalue their actions and their contribution to the common cause. Low self-esteem can lead to the formation of complexes and small troubles that no longer allow a person to live peacefully: a complex person can not just enjoy life, he is always worried about something. However, this can and should be fought.
Selfish people know how to properly deny others
You may be surprised, but to say a simple word “no” in today’s world is a must: it will help you save your own resources (including the most precious thing we have – time) and even show the strength of character to you respected. For example, in a new job you only have to agree once or twice to a seemingly simple, small assignment that does not correspond to your position, and write lost: by the end of the week you will find that almost all employees have managed to lay the lion’s share of their responsibilities.
Altruists, for the most part, can’t say no: they are ready to help anyone who asks for it around the clock. Of course, there are some advantages to this: not very often (but it still happens) altruists receive help in return. Unfortunately, in most cases, altruists spend their time and other resources on others, receiving nothing in return, and it seems that everyone is completely satisfied. Such a strategy, of course, is unlikely to succeed.
Selfish people know how to set goals and achieve them
Being able to set the right goals and achieve them is very important if you want to succeed: the magnitude of ambition sometimes pushes people to actions that completely change their lives for the better. The lack of ambition, characteristic of altruists, can play a nasty joke even with the most talented person: because of fears and insecurities, she will spend her whole life in four walls, not trying all the opportunities that could give her a good start in life. At the same time, not so outstanding, but more motivated people, thanks to their self-confidence, get a chance to escape from the gray reality and do it quite successfully.
Altruists have good relationships with others
It would seem, what can good relationships with others have to do with success? Yes, straight! Communication in our lives is not the last place: in order to find a job (and what, how will a career bring you dizzying success?), Get a good offer, in any case have to communicate with people, persuade them to accept your point of view. It turns out that a person who has a large number of social ties, much more ways to achieve success and prosperity than a lonely loner – she, in turn, will have to “break through” only through their own skills, not hoping for help. Constantly interacting with many people, altruists gain incredible experience that further helps them.
And if you think that an altruist does good deeds only to continue to use appropriate help, you are sorely mistaken: success comes to altruists not because. It has been proven that most altruists know how to empathize like no other: in addition, they have an increased level of empathy for other people, which helps them a lot in communication.
It seems impossible to say unequivocally who can achieve more. Altruists are good at communicating with people, which helps them in life, but spend too much time on others, while selfish people are ready to literally “go head to head” and due to their assertiveness are also able to succeed. It is no secret that the modern world is cruel: there is almost no room left for good and selfless deeds that altruists are ready to commit. Unfortunately, this is a gentle and kind person worthy is much harder to succeed, so egotists actually “fill the ball”, no matter how much we want the opposite.
We do not recommend going to extremes: the middle ground between these two qualities is best. Take altruistic skills from interacting with people, and learn from egoists the ability to defend their interests when needed. In addition, it is worth remembering that the concept of success is not the same for everyone: one person may have their own system of values, which will be strikingly different from the beliefs and beliefs of another .
